There is no assigning beliefs to a person one by one on the basis of his verbal behavior, his choices, or other local signs physical movement, no matter how plain and evident, for we make sense of particular beliefs only as they cohere with other beliefs, with preferences, with intention, hopes, fears, expectation, and the rest.
Our interpretation of the other is holistic in the sense that the attribution of each individual mental state to another person must be made against the background of attribution of other mental states.
