My partner is away visiting our daughter at University, I am lonely and decide to attend a
Group Therapy Meeting, or as some people would call it AA, NA, Over- eaters Anonymous
I call it, I believe correctly 'Group Therapy'
The meeting is at a Church in a very smart part of London, I get there and it is packed
with wanna be's, wanna be in this part of London, better than a night at the Theatre, wanna be better,
wanna be free. It must be a decade since I have been to this place but I do not wish to be disparaging about such 'Meetings' because they helped me enormously, for I was very nearly a 60s casualty
on drugs and drink. But one moves on which is a testament to the success of such 'programmes'
I look at one or who I knew of old, he has ballooned in size and I feel my moving on was the healthiest route. People begin to 'share' what emerges is almost a parody, the waif
girl, with her Dickensian type background, the laughably middle class sharing of minutiae
and the constant thanks to that metaphysical abstraction my 'Higher Power'
I want to say, 'look you higher power is not some sanctified meta psychical abstraction it is
your DNA, your Neurons, Your Genome, your Bio Metrics et al
but I decide it would not help, for if they are standing on some metapsychical ladder which is aiding them to reach new interpersonal heights, well, may their 'God' be with them.
