Philosophy received its original impulse in Greece and from this
impulse, it has retained the love and the passion for freedom.
It follows philosophy is a rare plant in the whole of humanity,
indeed we may even call it a fragile plant; and there has not been, so far as is known any philosophy named and characterised precisely in this way elsewhere
than in our Western civilization.
Philosophy, and intellectual contemplation, which are peculiar to
the Occident, (the countries of the West, especially Europe and America0 and the desire for mystical union beyond thought, which
for a majority of thinkers belongs to religion.
