Endorphins are a
natural substance produced by the body with an effect not unlike morphine.
That
is what the word endorphin means - ‘morphine within’.
The chemical binds to
pain receptor sites in the body, essentially blocking physical pain. This is
thought to be the body’s instinctual way of preserving itself during
potentially harmful situations. Endorphins are related to the fight or flight
response that humans possess, allowing a person to continue the fight or the
flight, depending on the individual’s disposition, despite injury or fatigue,
and is indispensable for survival. In short, it is the body operating its
defence system
