If something rather than nothing had pre-existed the cosmos, then the world’s existence might be seen as a necessary step in some greater process.
So if something had existed prior to God's creation then his/her creation would have been part of a process.
But let us assume that nothing existed, there is a problem with the word nothing, not just with the word but the very claim that nothing exists...for if it exists it is not nothing etc...
Anyway, to say that nothing preceded God creation, it is to claim that God didn’t have to bring it about, indeed may long since have bitterly regretted doing so.
