Is reality conservative?

In fiction the argument goes that reality is conservative and
as dull as ditch water.
Realism is normative and a value term.
Can you get good drama out of reason?
No, that's is why we have a plethora of Harry Potters and
all the poorer we are for it,
So once out of realistic fiction we are into parody and can parody deliver?
