The child to the adult – our debit to the Greeks.The past has made us, whether we acknowledge it or not it. Heroic Greek society (Homer et al) is still inescapably a part of us all. Any attempt to write our history must necessarily encounter Marx’s claim that the Greeks stand to civilised modernity as the child to the adult.
