More literary pyrotechnics with short fuses, I am afraid. The sound bite this morning is:
If you write fiction, you are by definition writing fiction i.e. not telling the truth. And if you do it most of your life then you could be termed a patholigical liar.
I put this to a writer friend of mine.
And the response was "I am not a pathological liar, nor a fantasist nor I do I suffer from mythomania.(note the abundance of words).....nor am I a pathological liar"
"What are you then?"
"I am just a poor scribbler, a writer."
I went away regretting I had brought up the subject with my writer friend, but I was still unclear about the difference between the pathological liar and the writer.
