Jack Kerouac was once arrested for bothering a young woman who he saw on the beach reading one of his books. Drunk, he tried to explain to her that he was the author of the 'God damn' book she was reading. She called the police and he was arrested.
Less bizarre and of more interest is that in Kerouac's books it is strictly American to conceive of a space that is always fillld with moving. This is illustrated in Kerouac's characters rushing frantically |from coast to coast, (On the Road), living embodiments of the restless spirit.
